Micro Focus (former Novell) allows users to set properties on files that are stored in a proprietary format that our clients cannot recognize. Because these properties are in a proprietary format the standard Unix calls to identify the properties will not work, they have to be called using Micro Focus’ proprietary format. Because of this, if a user has these properties configured and our system does a backup of the files it will strip out the proprietary properties, backing them up with just the standard Unix properties.
Micro Focus has on their website a script that will record these properties into a plain text file that can be backed up along with the regular files, which can then be restored along with the files and used to restore the proprietary properties.
Users should be able to have this script run before a backup to generate the files they need to generate the text files every time they run a backup.
