Archive drive troubleshooting

On this page

What to do if you cannot see the archive drive in ArchiveLibraries, but you can see it in SettingsToolsRAID Configuration.

If the drive shows in SettingsToolsRAID Configuration, but not in ArchiveLibraries, you need to turn it off and scan again in SettingsToolsRAID Configuration.

The drive in SettingsToolsRAID Configuration may show as ‘incorrect format’. Once the fix above is applied, the drive should show as formatted properly and any data on the drive should be accessible again.

If you are unable to select the drive in SettingsToolsRAID Configuration to turn it off and scan again, you have to restart the appliance via SettingsBasicReboot.

This will cause any current backup job in progress to cancel. You will have to manually archive the jobs on that list.

If you are unable to restart the appliance, contact Support.

After you restarted the appliance, you should see the drive in ArchiveLibraries.

If it then shows as a “Foreign Disk”:

  1. Click Manage Disk, and then click Prepare Disk For Removal.

The disk will then disappear from the archive bay.

  2. Go to the Settings tab, and click RAID Configuration in the Tools group.

  3. Click Rescan.

The archive drive should reappear. Check if it does not show as a foreign disk.

If it is a brand new disk with no data, this is actually expected, and you need to format the disk. Otherwise, you should be able to see the space left on it.

If the archive drive is visible in SettingsToolsRAID Configuration, but is not green, that is incorrectly formatted drive, and does not show up at all in ArchiveLibraries.

  • If the drive does not have data on it:

    1. On the Settings tab, click RAID Configuration in the Tools group.

    2. Select the archive drive highlighted black, and then click Reformat.

  • If the drive does have data on it that needs to be saved or recovered, contact Support.

If the drive turns green, check if it is visible in ArchiveLibraries.

If the drive is now visible, click Manage Disk, and then click Test and Initialize to correct the formatting.

If the drive still is not visible, or if the “Test and Initialize” fails, contact Support.

Troubleshooting

Error message

error:com.rvx.backup.archive.ArchiveException: com.rvx.db.DatabaseException: SELECT insp('/')
Cause:org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: out of memory Detail: Failed on request of size 20.

Steps to resolve

This seems to involve the database on the archive, and typically occurs when little or no previous data is present on the drive. Previously, this error occurred on a new disk and was resolved by reformatting the disk. If this error is seen on a disk with data that needs to be recovered, contact Support.
